    GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The function of a coach is to educate students through participation in an interscholastic competition. An interscholastic program should be designed to enhance academic achievement and should actively promote opportunities for academic success. Each student should be treated with the utmost respect, and his or her welfare should be considered in decisions by the coach at all times. Coaches have tremendous influence over students and as such shall instill the highest levels of ethical and moral character in their athletes. Coaches are expected to uphold the honor and dignity of the profession. Strong ethical and integrity will be evident in all interactions with students, officials, athletic directors, school administrators, state athletic officials, and members of the media or public.

    MAJOR DUTIES:

    1. Be knowledgeable of and enforce federal, state and district policies, rules, regulations and procedures.
    2. Adhere to standards of professional conduct as outlined in Governing Board Policy.
    3. Follow guidelines as established by the NO Pass/NO Play policy.
    4. Provide for the safety and welfare of all participants in practice areas, locker rooms, and on buses/vans.
    5. Support the total school athletic program by developing and implementing strategies for encouraging student participation in all athletic programs.
    6. Ensure accurate inventory, storage, issuance, care and collection of all school athletic equipment.
    7. Adhere to District policies, procedures and guidelines related to transportation, student travel and supervision of students, use of facilities and management of keys.
    8. Schedule, organize, supervise and proactively control the environment related to practices, competition and pre/post season events.
    9. Knowledge of sport being coached.


    HEAD COACH (In addition to the items listed above)

    1. Maintain and manage budgets tied to the athletic program
    2. Ensure proper supervision and conduct by all assistant and volunteer coaches

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Candidate must be at least 21 years of age
    2. Possess a current CPR certification
    3. Meet all coaching qualifications, course requirements and certifications as determined by federal, state and District criteria
    4. Pass background investigation as outlined by the District
    5. Be recommended by Principal or designee
    6. Receive Governing Board approval
    7. Possess an active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card


    IN ADDITION TO QUALIFICATIONS LISTED ABOVE A HEAD COACH (VARSITY, JV, FRESHMAN LEVELS) MUST

    8 . Possess a valid Arizona Teacher or Substitute Certificate.
    (Lower-Level coaches, if not certified, must be under the direct supervision of a certified staff member)


    VOLUNTEER COACH

    9 . At all times, the volunteer shall be under supervision of a full-time certified staff member.
    (The certified staff member shall be designated via PUHSD approved process)
