Job Summary:

As a Principal Electrical Engineer at Mercury Systems, you will provide technical leadership and oversight to the hardware design team while making significant individual technical contributions. You will lead world-class engineering teams in developing sophisticated mission-critical embedded technology—from below the ocean to orbiting in space. Lead challenging projects including the world's most secure processing and storage hardware, advanced FPGA RF and signal processing systems, Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM) devices, advanced display technologies, and extreme environment electronics that power operations across Space, Air, Land, and Sea. This role requires serving as a technical expert and key liaison between program management, system engineering, mechanical design, software, and manufacturing. You will support proposals with architecting, technical volume writing, and Basis of Estimate (BOE) development, while proactively proposing and implementing process improvements. At Mercury, we work with an Integrator Mindset, collaborating across sites and disciplines to create novel solutions that directly impact the security of our country and the safety of our world.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering teams to design, develop, and verify complex circuits, modules, and systems to meet customer and market requirements
  • Provide technical leadership for new and ongoing projects from concept through production
  • Architect and drive cutting-edge solutions for secure processing, data storage, signal processing, DRFM, display, and extreme environment systems
  • Design using cutting-edge technology including 400/200/100G Ethernet, PCIe Gen 4/5, DDR4/5 SDRAM, high-speed fiber optics from Intel, Xilinx, Altera, NVIDIA, Broadcom, TI and beyond
  • Lead engineering efforts to support production, resolve manufacturing issues, and conduct field failure investigations
  • Create engineering design guidelines, work instructions, and checklists for design consistency and process improvement
  • Lead efforts to improve Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT)
  • Support proposal development including architecting, technical volume writing, and providing Basis of Estimate (BOE) for cost and schedule
  • Provide technical expertise to assist Program Managers in developing cost estimates and integrated master schedules
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level hardware engineers (EE I-II) and proactively propose process improvements

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • Typically requires a minimum 6 years of electrical engineering product development experience from concept to production
  • Experience designing complex embedded digital hardware products from concept to completion
  • Experience developing detailed design specifications, test plans, and verification reports
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity principles for very high-speed digital design
  • Experience leading projects and mentoring engineers at multiple levels
  • Experience working on proposals and schedule/cost estimates
  • Ability to travel as needed between facilities or to customer sites. Amount of travel is dependent on the work location.

  • Experience designing network switching devices (Mellanox, Broadcom, Marvell) or Intel CPU architectures (Xeon-D, Cascade Lake, Sapphire Rapids)
  • Experience using Cadence Allegro for CAD/SI layout and simulation or Mentor Valydate for schematic integrity checking
  • Advanced analysis including stress derating, reliability, and FMECA
  • Knowledge of military standards and experience developing to MIL-STD-704F, 1275, 461G, 1399, DO-160G
