    STARTING HOURLY RATE: $16.41 - $17.16 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD AND EDUCATION)

    SUMMARY:

    The Kitchen Assistant performs a variety of kitchen duties in preparing and serving meals for students and faculty.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Prepares food and supplies for breakfast and lunch services.
    2. Assists with cooking menu items for meals. Records food, refrigerator, and freezer temperatures.
    3. Set up student and faculty cafeterias, ensuring eating utensils and supplies are available and the food serving lines are ready; break down serving lines at completion of lunch hours.
    4. Set up student and faculty cafeterias, ensuring eating utensils and supplies are available and the food serving lines are ready; break down serving lines at completion of lunch hours.
    5. Sets-up steam tables; organizes food service lines.
    6. Collects, counts, records, and stores food left over from meals.
    7. Takes inventory of supplies on hand and informs School Cafeteria Site Supervisor of items needed. Accepts food deliveries and dates items to be stored.
    8. Assists at cash registers by accepting money from students and staff, and counting money for end of the day deposits.
    9. Participates in cleaning and sanitizing dining and kitchen areas.
    10. Assists part-time Cafeteria Workers as needed.
    11. Assists with planning and ordering for the menu.
    12. Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

    High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous commercial kitchen or food industry experience preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


    License and Certification Requirements:

    Must possess a valid Maricopa County Food Handler\"s Card at the time of hire.

    Must be able to obtain a ServSafe Manager\"s Certificate within 90 days of employment.

    Possess an Active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card or obtain one within the first 90 workdays of employment.

    • Skill in operating a variety of commercial kitchen appliances.
